15 Questions to Ask Before You Book a Photo Booth

Nearly every photo booth company in Houston has a five-star rating, so stars alone won’t tell you much. What separates a seamless night from a stressful one is in the details: who runs the booth, how photos reach your guests, and what happens when something goes wrong.

We read more than 750 written reviews of Houston photo booth companies and drew on our own 1,000+ events since 2018 to put this list together. The questions are grouped by the moment they matter.

Before you book

1. “Who will actually be running the booth?”

The attendant is the part of a photo booth that guests remember most. In review after review, people name the attendant: the one who gathered the grandparents, gave posing tips, and kept the line moving. Ask whether an attendant stays for the whole event, and whether they’re trained staff or day hires.

2. “Who will I be working with while we plan?”

Responsiveness before the event predicts reliability on the day. Houston couples consistently describe the stress of chasing vendors who never call back. Ask who answers your questions while you plan, and who runs the booth on the night. With us, Cyril handles the planning personally, and a professional attendant runs your booth from setup to breakdown.

3. “What exactly is included, and for how many hours?”

Get the full list in writing:

  • attendant
  • prints
  • digital sharing
  • custom print design
  • backdrop
  • the online gallery
  • setup and breakdown

You’ll notice props aren’t on that list. Many companies bring a bin of hats and signs. We don’t: they cheapen the photo and pull attention away from your guests and your event.

Then compare quotes at the same number of hours. Our cost guide explains what’s typical in Houston.

4. “What happens if we need to change the date?”

Plans move, and receptions run late. Ask how date changes, extra time and cancellations are handled, and get the answer in writing.

Planning the look

5. “Can the prints match our invitation or logo?”

A custom print design is what turns a photo strip into a keepsake. Ask whether you can send your invitation, monogram, colors or brand guidelines, and whether you’ll approve a proof first. You can see examples on our templates page.

6. “How many backdrops can I choose from?”

It’s a small detail that guests notice. If half the room is wearing the same color as the backdrop, every photo looks flat. Ask to see the full range, and think about your wedding party’s colors when you choose. We offer dozens of backdrops (see them here), so there’s always one that suits your venue and your palette.

7. “Do you offer black-and-white?”

Black-and-white photos are timeless, flattering and one of the most-requested looks at Houston weddings right now. A true Glam Booth uses studio lighting and retouching, not just a filter. See the difference.

8. “Will the lighting work for guests who wear glasses?”

Glare on glasses is one of the most common small complaints in photo booth reviews. A well-placed, diffused light avoids it. Ask how the company handles it.

On the day

9. “What time will you arrive, and when will you be ready?”

The booth should be set up, tested and ready before your first guest walks in, and nobody should have to check on it. We typically arrive an hour before start time, and we adjust to your venue’s load-in rules and your planner’s timeline.

10. “How much space and power do you need?”

Most booths need about an 8 ft × 8 ft area and standard outlets nearby. Tell the company your venue early. Older estates and outdoor ranch venues around Houston often need a plan for power and cover.

11. “Can it handle large groups?”

Bridal parties, families and corporate teams all want group shots. Ask whether the camera can fit 10 or more people and whether the attendant will help arrange them.

12. “How many photos do guests get per session, and can they retake?”

Knowing the format up front (one pose or several, retakes allowed or not) helps guests get a photo they love. Every layout can be customized. On our Open Air booth, print layouts range from a single photo to three or four poses. For the Glam Booth we recommend one photo per session, which lets the studio lighting and the retouching in our GlamBoost software do their best work. The result is one beautiful black-and-white image rather than several smaller ones.

After the click

13. “How do guests get their photos, and what if the venue Wi-Fi fails?”

This is the question to press on. The most common complaint in Houston photo booth reviews isn’t the booth itself. It’s guests who never received their digital copy, or received it days later because the venue’s Wi-Fi dropped. Ask how photos are sent, and what the backup is when the connection drops. Our booths carry their own hotspot, so texts and emails go out even when the venue Wi-Fi is down. In the rare case there’s no signal at all, every photo is sent the same night, as soon as we’re back at our facility.

14. “Will I get every photo from the night, and how soon?”

You’ll be busy being the host. The full gallery is how you see what your guests saw. Ask how many days it takes to arrive and how long the link stays live. Ours arrives within 24 to 72 hours.

15. “What happens if something goes wrong?”

Rain at an outdoor event, a venue with too few outlets, a timeline that runs late. A professional company has thought about each of these before the day, not during it. Ask what the plan is: where the booth goes if the weather turns, what power it needs, and how the attendant handles a schedule change. Ask for the plan, not just reassurance.

A simple way to compare

Put your top two or three companies side by side and score them on three things:

  1. Who’s in the room. The attendant and the owner.
  2. What guests take home. Prints, digital copies and the gallery.
  3. What’s handled for you. Setup, design, and the backup plan.

The lowest quote rarely wins on all three.

Frequently asked questions

How far in advance should I book a photo booth in Houston?
For Saturday weddings in spring and fall, three to nine months ahead is safest. Corporate holiday parties in December book up by late October. Last-minute dates are sometimes possible, so it’s always worth asking.

Do I need an attendant for my photo booth?
For weddings and formal events, yes. The attendant is what keeps guests engaged, makes sure every photo is printed and sent, and fixes issues before anyone notices.

Can a photo booth be set up outdoors?
Usually, with advance notice, a covered area and access to power. Rain is the main risk, so plan a covered spot as backup.

What should a photo booth contract include?
The date, hours, booth type, everything that’s included, the deposit and balance schedule, overtime rates, and what happens if the event is rescheduled or the equipment fails.
